Our dentists
Stephen McElroy (BDS, DPDS), Practice Principal, qualified at the University of Glasgow and joined the practice in 1994, taking over as principal in 1999. He has special interests in restorative and cosmetic dentistry, implants and orthodontics.
Stephen advances his skills through professional development courses and continues to make improvements to the practice.
When not at work Stephen enjoys spending time with his wife and children. He also has a keen interest in cycling and running.
He is an active member of the Association of Dental Implantology and the Local Dental Committee.
Hamish Roberton (BDS, DPDS) qualified in Edinburgh in 1988, and gained experience in practices in Staffordshire and Fort William before joining us in 2002.
Implants, root fillings and cosmetic dentistry are the areas that Hamish is particularly interested in.
Outside of work Hamish has a love of rock climbing and archaeology. He has supervised excavations in the UK and abroad and has appeared on ‘Time Team’. Hamish enjoys family life with his wife and four children.
Andrew Clarke (BDS) is from Cheltenham originally, and studied at the Royal London Dental Hospital, qualifying in 1992. He then worked in Norwich and Portsmouth before returning to Cheltenham in 2001. He joined our team at Cambray in 2005.
Andrew enjoys all aspects of general dental care and has a special interest in preventative, restorative and cosmetic dentistry.
Away from the practice Andrew is a keen photographer, motorcyclist, golf and squash player.
Alexis Armstrong (BDS, DPDS) qualified from the University of Glasgow in 1982.
She then focused on oral and maxillofacial surgery for several years. She has since worked in general dental practice and also teaches oral surgery at Birmingham University. Alexis joined Cambray in 2005.
Alexis lives in a quiet Cotswold village and enjoys walking her dog through the beautiful countryside, keeping fit in the process! She also enjoys participating in village life.
Sarah Farrier (BDS, MFDS RCS, MPhil) qualified in Cardiff in 2001 and spent time in general practice before working in the hospital to focus on oral surgery and restorative dentistry.
Sarah worked in a leading private practice in Cardiff and lectured for some years at Cardiff University, before moving here in 2006. She is particularly interested in cosmetic dentistry, implants and root canal treatment.
Her post-graduate education has enabled her to become a member of the Royal College of Surgeons, whilst also achieving a Masters in Philosophy. When not at work Sarah spends time with her family and friends and enjoys keeping fit and cooking.
Dental therapist
Alison Harwood (RDT, RDH) worked with us as a dental hygienist for some time before leaving to qualify as a dental therapist at the University of Liverpool in 2005.
Alison enjoys all aspects of her role including helping patients to avoid or overcome gum disease, offering advice about diet and oral hygiene and children’s dentistry.
Alison is a Gloucestershire Independent Dental Hygienists (GIDH) committee member and also works as a clinical teacher at Bristol Dental Hospital, supervising the undergraduates in the Periodontal Department.
Hygienists
Christine Daglish (RDH) qualified at the Royal Naval Dental Training School in 1978. She has spent a year in Hong Kong and four years in the Middle East.
Christine is a member of the British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy (BSDHT) and the GIDH, and in her free time enjoys walking her two Labradors.
Lesley Card (RDH) qualified in 1995 at The Royal Air Force Institute of Dental Health and Training at RAF Halton. After leaving the RAF, Lesley worked as one of the hygienists in a large surgery in the city of London. Lesley then moved back to Cheltenham in 2005 to be closer to her family and joined Cambray in 2007.
When not at work Lesley enjoys challenges such as half marathons and is keen to run a full marathon one day!
Our support staff
Our support staff do an excellent job of helping the dentists and hygienists to care for our patients, and also ensure the practice runs smoothly.
